Last month we decided that more testosterone was needed in the studio, so we asked Lane to come in for some fun. After photographing Brian a few months ago for a homework assignment and the comments we received – it was time to photograph some more men.
Let me preface this post by saying that we do not normally shoot men and that this isn’t going to be something we do all the time. It’s strictly just for fun and we are very selective with whom we allow in the studio. One of the studio rules is “no men” after all…. but I think we’re broken this rule several times.
My shoot with Lane was different from all of our other shoots in that it was just me and the model. No hair/makeup, no assistant, just us. Personally I have found in the past when shooting men that guys feel like they have to put on a show when it’s more than one person and it’s usually because they’re uncomfortable or feel a little silly. So I decided that when I shoot men it would be just us two so that we can develop a connection and I can pull those emotions and feelings out of the models much better than if there were other people in the room.
Taking a quote from my Stripped Down instructor Denise Birdsong, “I am going to flirt with you a bit to get you to give me that sexy eye contact and that ‘come get me expression’ – but I don’t want to sleep with you!”
After watching many of Denise’s videos and how she works with men and how she speaks to them, it’s amazing. It’s never sexual or overbearing. It’s more flirty and fun. It seems so easy. Until you actually do it. Hahaha… my flirt game is terrible.
Anywhoo…. Lane and I actually watched Denise’s videos together so he could get a sense of what I wanted from him and how I would be instructing him. He was really good at taking direction and letting go. That is the biggest part. You really have to just give it your all and let your guard down. Otherwise you’ll get stiff and boring photos.
These photos are hot AF and I think more women are going to start messaging us asking us to shoot their partners!
So without further adieu, I give you Lane Braidwood.
